Launchpad creates employment and training opportunities for motivated school leavers as a solution to business needs.

where it all began

When establishing  Simon Mortlock Partners (SMP) in 1997, Simon Mortlock set out to make a difference.  “I had extensive experience in the legal industry, particularly in the commercial area.  I wanted to establish a culture that was fresher and connected to issues in our communities. For me this meant trying to give something back and lead our involvement in affirmative social issues."

Simon Mortlock’s office employed a school leaver as a trial exercise in business-led social responsibility.  With Practice Manager Jan Crooks supervising, the model began to unfold and the potential became compelling.

A meeting with Jo Wolfreys, who was conducting research at the time, began the ball rolling which saw the establishment of the trust and development of the model out of the SMP office.

Furthering this model and intergral to the programme was the development of a student workbook.  Jan Crooks created a workbook for the initial student at SMP,  which has become the basis of the current workbook used nationally.

“The guiding ethic of our firm is that we are strongly business based and people focused” reflects Simon. “Our ongoing involvement in launchpad is a way to practise this commitment on a daily basis."

“We are delighted with the success of Launchpad and look forward to its continuing growth throughout the country” - Simon Mortlock.
